Julian Glover launches birthday celebration season

The Press Launch for the Marlowe450 events in Canterbury took place on 19 February at the historic George Inn on Borough High Street, London. The launch was hosted by the world renowned actor and Marlowe Society Vice-President Julian Glover, and speakers included Andrew Dawson of the Marlowe Theatre, Steven Green (Artistic Director of the Fourth Monkey Theatre Company), and Marlowe Society Vice-Chairman John Hunt. Fourth Monkey actor Alex Reynolds, who is playing Doctor Faustus in the forthcoming production, whetted everyone's appetite with some excellent readings from Marlowe's play.

The Fourth Monkey Theatre Company will be performing three Marlowe plays in Canterbury during March: Doctor Faustus (12-14 March) and The Jew of Malta (26-28 March) at the Marlowe Theatre, sandwiching a rare production of The Massacre at Paris (18-19 March) in the atmospheric Canterbury Cathedral Crypt.

Marlowe450 is also supported by the University of Kent and The Marlowe Society, and talks at various historic Canterbury venues have been organised to tie in with each production: Ros Barber asks "Was Marlowe Faustus?" (12 March), Louis de Bernières and Jan Leeming discuss "Lingering Identities: the Huguenot Past" (18 March), before Charles Nicholl examines "Marlowe, Machiavelli and The Jew of Malta" (26 March).

Further details of the performances and talks, together ticket booking information, can be found on the Marlowe Theatre website.
